Medical links

I've been very interested in medicine for a number of years now. It probably began in 1999 when I started to get into nutritional science, but realized I'd need more medical knowledge in order to understand all the information. At the same time I was also writing a novel whose main character was a teenager with leukemia, so I had to read dozens of books and websites in order to get a good grasp of the illness. I guess that's why oncology is still one of my main areas of interest, even though it has no personal relevance to me (unlike things like nutrition, neurology, immunology, pharmacology and other "favorites" of mine). Since then I've read tens of thousands of pages in medical books and probably a similar amount of websites. I also find medical Usenet groups very interesting and informative.

This link list has been compiled from my bookmark list. It is not intended to be a conclusive list of areas of medicine or of the most informative websites. It mostly consists of scientific information, but also has links to some column-like commentaries, patient advocacy sites and such. I hope that it will be of use or of interest for someone, perhaps for a passionate "home researcher" like me, perhaps it will even spark someone's interest in medicine. I think that medicine is a topic that is relevant to all of us and having some knowledge of it won't hurt. I even believe that understanding medicine will help us better understand both ourselves and other people.

Also remember that I cannot guarantee the accuracy of any of the information on these linked sites. I don't agree with everything they say. Please remember that the medicine is an area with many kinds of theories and controversies. A lot of the information is updated all the time. If you suspect you have a medical problem, you should see a doctor. None of these links are intended to replace the personal advice from a medical professional.

I recently removed all links to New Scientist articles I had previously had on this site. The magazine has made it very clear they do not respect science and consequently I have no reason to respect their abominations of science.
